Phelps on notice

America's new golden boy Michael Phelps faces a three month competitive swimming ban by USA Swimming, following photos of him inhaling marijuana at a bar.

Although not an illegal doping substance, the committee wanted to send a message showing that he was indeed wrong for the drug usuage.

Along with his suspension, Phelps' contract with Kellogg Co. will not be renewed. The company decided that his actions were not in line with their image.

Personally, I really can not disagree with any of it. Hell, Kobe loss endorsements despite his innocence in 2003. When you step onto that world stage be prepared to give your life up for full disclosed viewing.

So apparently there is this woman that has devised a “get rich quick scheme” that includes having a bunch of children. No I am not referring to the many single mothers across the country that continue to breed and depend on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families as a permanent source of income. Nadeya Suleman has a different plan.

The 33 year old mom of 14 (including the octuplets) plans on attaining some type of media-drive fame. For doing what you ask? Simply put, for having children. I do not mean to undervalue the birthing process, but what type of job is that? Besides the obvious, she plans on exploiting her children. But also, giving birth does not require any special skills. It is not a talent or an art that can be perfected.

Suleman is in the works with a publicists to schedule talk show appearances and interviews. The biggest one mentioned, Oprah. If Oprah does grant her request, then I will have one more reason to dislike her.

Skinny jeans and the men who wear 'em

While checking out other blogs, as I like to do occasionally, I ran across one about skinny jeans. More specifically if men should wear them. The writer was pretty neutral, admitting that he had not been exposed to a lot of dudes wearing them. The comments that followed were all over the place. One man labeled it an “Atlanta thing”.

While some might label it as gay or feminine, I do not. Personally, I think wearing jeans of any fit (loose, relaxed fit, slim straight, or skinny) with a deep sag (ass out) is gay. Even more gay are the dudes that wear them with brightly colored cartoon underwear. Why not wear a sign saying, “Look at my ass”. LOL.

My only caution on the skinny jean (as with anything else) is that they are not for everyone. So if you are the big cock diesel linebacker type dude , they are not for you. Likewise if you have the beer belly going or some hidden curves, then they are also not for you.

But for us slim cats --- finally a pair of jeans that fit. Lol. My slim straights fit like relaxed fit jeans. So I don't have a problem wearing a pair of skinny's. Hell, I probably wear the same size as Pharrell.

50 Cent going hard on top artists

Fifty is up to his usual antics again publicly dissing other mainstream artists. In a recent radio interview, he targets Fat Joe, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne. Straight from the horse's mouth (no pun intended):

On Kanye's 808 & Heartbreaks, “I'm excited he got away with it. It's supposed to be a brick, a cinder block”. He also took jabs at Kanye's sexuality, citing the tight clothes as “irregular in a straight world”.

On Wayne, “I don't see him as competition. I mean he has to have a lot of consistency before we put him in a space and feel he's equivalent. He's a talented artist, but my consistency will break his neck”.

In general, “I want to see who gets out of pocket”.

The whole outburst was funny really. The radio personalities (that are nobody's for the record) blew his head up. Kanye most likely will not respond, but answer with another tight album. A tight album that will check 50 Cent once more, like the Graduation did Curtis back in 2007. If Wayne, well when Wayne responds, it's over. The public loves their Lil Wayne. Try again 50 Cent. In short the interview can be summed up as a stunt for Before I Self Destruct, which is set to be released next month, February 3rd.

I hate to call this man an idiot. The fact that he's 71 years old won't allow me to call him an idiot. But really Roland Burris? Did the Democrats not make it clear that you would NOT be seated? I get that you were appointed by Gov. Blagojevich (the dude with the flyyest haircut in America, lol). But that in itself was a joke. For all we know, you could have been the highest bidder.

Don't waste your money trying to fight it. Take the appointment as a compliment, but keep it moving. Yes, there are currently no African-Americans in the Senate. But clearly, that's not why they don't want you. A wise man once told me (on a completely unrelated subject), "Just keep your things in order and they will seek you".

As 2008 gives way to 2009, I can't help but think how things began on a good note and now, will end on a good one too. Some of my best times were had over in Bellamy Grand and even Bivens Cove with the Cuzzos. From them I learned how to just live for the day and be free. Other fun times were spent in Tallyho. I made GMG rich. And then there was that one bus ride back on Greyhound with the newly released convicts. Road trips. Day excursions. Nights at Rendezvous with the old high school gang. There were other clubs. Fun times @ Venue. Even Skate Station (right Yaya? LOL).

I gained a new perspective on friendships & love. I loved hard and fell into a funk like Kanye. Only I didn't propose. The nature of all my friendships changed because we the friends, changed. Some friends I keep in contact with more than others. We're all busy these days (but that's a great thing). I've loss a few and added a few. But greater than that are the lessons learned from it all. I've learned to enjoy people for the time that we do have them in our lives and that nothing lasts forever. I was able to be there for a good friend in her time of need, and I'm thankful for that.

2008 Has shown me that struggle knows no age or socioeconomic status. Despite the smiles, shoes & words of encouragement ----- I was dealing with a lot. Faced with new challenges and obstacles. I learned that a man accepts responsibility for his actions and plays to win, even when dealt a losing hand.

I strengthened my relationship with God. Not that I questioned my faith, but I questioned many things about life in general. I didn't understand why bad things happen to good people, or innocent people for that matter. Why all the massive floods in the Midwest? Why the continuous devastation in Haiti? Why the increase in the education gap of our children? Instead of questioning things beyond my understanding, I was called to action (ex. volunteering at JJ Finley and the Kids Rescue Mission).

It's foolish to not set goals because each day we should all be striving towards something. However, this year I won't lists all the things that I “won't do”, because in '08 I made many of the same mistakes from '07.

Instead I'll focus on a greater awareness of self and living for the rest of my life.

THEE Addiction

This past Spring I nearly cleared my Savings Account. Spent more than the costs of rent on my apartment for the month. On what? The Jordan Levi 501 package. Before you judge me and say that I waste money... try to understand me. It's an addiction. A fulfillment in it's own right. There's something about copping a pair of Jordans that compares to --- well, nothing (especially if they are limited). It's an insatiable appetite that drives myself and other shoe junkies into a frenzy around shoe release dates.

It usually begins with a little research on the Internet (23isback.com or air-jordans.com) to find out about the shoe (colorways, prices, and release dates).

Then a little budgeting/ borrowing to come up with the cash.

From there it's calling around to see which stores are carrying the shoe. It's not a good feeling to waste time driving around, only to find out a store didn't even get the shoe.

Next, depending on if the shoe is limited or not, you might have to wait in line for a few hours before the store opens. Is he serious? YES, I AM SERIOUS! I've waited 3 hours before outside of Niketown.

And I know people that have camped out overnight at Shoe Gallery. But that's on another level. And no I'm not crazy. And certainly not alone. There are thousands more out there that will do just about anything for a pair of Jordans.
